How to Dry a Hardwood Floor

Over the years I have dried many hard wood floors on screeds. Everything from gymnasiums to commercial office buildings, historical homes, etc. Before we had low grain refrigerant dehumidifiers we used to use desiccant dehumidifiers. However, with all the advancement in dehumidifier technology in recent years it is a lot easier to do a more thorough drying job with a lot less destruction.

Once you have choosen your dehumidifier then you can remove one or two strips of wood the length of the room and 2 boards away from the baseboard on each side of the room. This can be replaced easily once the floor is dry. This will allow you to be able to extract any standing water between the screeds. Then you will be able to dry the screeds and floor. Now you can take your dehumidifier and some lay flat ducting and pump the warm dry air from the dehumidifier under the floor. The add to the airflow with some centrigual fans pointing straight down under the floor. At this point, you should be able to go to the other side of the room and feel the air coming out.
